Every field supports various kinds of rōmaji and kiriji (which can be mixed in virtually any way), as well as normal kanji plus kana writing (the original names/lyrics). It is even possible to write Japanese in different ways in different fields, even differently in the two parts of a person’s name.

When entering rōmaji or kiriji, the search string can end in a consonant without a vowel; in such a case all kana whose pronunciation starts with this consonant will match (e. g., if you search for ‘tob’, then toba, tobi, tobu, tobe, tobo, tobya, tobyu and tobyo will all match; if you search for ‘ton’, then tona, toni, tonu, tone, tono, tonya, tonyu, tonyo and ton will all match). It can also begin with a vowel without a consonant, in which case all kana whose pronunciation ends with this vowel will match.

For persons, fill the person’s name into any field and surname into the other. If the person has a single nickname, fill it into any field and leave the other blank.

If you enter something in several fields, only songs that satisfy all fields are shown.

Future Killer Features

At first, the SansiDB might seem just another lyrics archive that shows weak attempts at providing information about the related people, characters, shows, films and games that are without doubt inferior to those offered by, say, AniDB. However, this is just the beginning of the great conquest of the Web by the SansiDB. Judge by yourself; here is a quick list of the killer features that will soon be implemented:

• superb search facilities,
• detailed information about albums and tracks, including the list of instrumentalists by instrument,
• information on when soundtrack pieces play in the corresponding shows’ episodes and films (meaning the actual time ranges when the pieces are heard playing),
• information about unreleased soundtrack,
• auto-tagging of the user’s audio files with the data from the database in a customizable format.

Middle-term and long-term plans and ideas include:

• free audio available for download in choosable formats with configurable compression settings,
• an online audio ABX facility,
• a special tool using ABX that would maximally simplify the process of finding the best compression method for a specific file in terms of size/quality,
• automatic synchronization with AniDB (albeit one-way only, which is, of course, from AniDB to here),
• music (as in sheet music),
• search by melody (I often find myself humming a song I know but being unable to remember its name, artist, album, lyrics or any other conventional identifying information).
